Mississippi had more new coronavirus cases last week than ever; See where cases grew most

Mississippi’s COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak worsened in the last week as new cases continued to grow rapidly, breaking more records.

Week over week, Mississippi’s coronavirus cases rose by more than 5,400 causing the total case volumes to rise by more than 17% across the state for the second-straight week.

Each of Mississippi’s 82 counties saw an increase in new cases over the prior week, using data provided by the Mississippi State Department of Health Monday and the prior Monday.

In several counties, the percentages of growth week over week were well above 40% including:

  • Alcorn County with 56.3% growth
  • Tallahatchie County with 43.8% growth.
  • George County with 40.4% growth
  • Simpson County with 40.2% growth.

In total, Mississippi recorded more than 5,400 new cases last week, a dramatic increase over the prior several weeks. The weekly average of new confirmed cases last week has doubled since mid-June.
