Statistically, Mississippi’s fight against the COVID-19 coronavirus keeps getting worse. Several new records were set with Wednesday’s latest numbers from the state.
Mississippi State Health Department reported that 1,099 people were in Mississippi hospitals with either confirmed COVID-19 or suspected COVID-19 awaiting test results. It was a new all-time high for total COVID patients in hospitals. The previous record was set the day prior.
Of those patients, 240 were in ICU rooms and 132 required ventilators, also record highs.
Mississippi reported 1,025 new cases Wednesday, the second-highest single-day total reported. That brings the total number of cases found in Mississippi to 38,567. The state believes nearly 26,000 of those cases have recovered.
Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases jumped to 811 cases per day. The 14-day average of daily new cases rose to 762. Both stats were record highs.
The state also reported 18 new deaths Wednesday attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 1,290. Seven of the deaths reported on Wednesday actually occurred between July 2 and July 7, but their reporting was delayed.
Totals of all reported cases since March 11, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
