More records set as Mississippi struggles to manage coronavirus outbreaks

Mississippi set new COVID-19 coronavirus records again Saturday as the state continues to see high numbers of new cases and deaths.
The 14-day death toll marked another record with 240 people dying of the virus in the last two weeks.
Mississippi reported 1,017 new cases Saturday, the fourth-straight day of new cases totaling above 1,000.
That brings the total number of cases found in Mississippi to 41,846. The state believes nearly 26,000 of those cases have recovered.
Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases rose 918 cases per day, a new record high and the first time the average rose above 900. The 14-day average of daily new cases rose to 798, also a new record high.
The state also reported 14 new deaths Saturday attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 1,346.
Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
