Mississippi coronavirus numbers churn higher Sunday, setting new deadly record again

Mississippi’s COVID-19 coronavirus statistics continued to bend higher Sunday, making more record highs.

The 14-day death toll marked another record with 246 people dying of the virus in the last two weeks.

Mississippi reported 792 new cases Sunday. The number of cases reported was lower than the last several days, all of which saw more than 1,000 new cases per day, but was more than three times the Sunday count from two weeks ago.

That brings the total number of cases found in Mississippi to 42,638. The state believes nearly 26,000 of those cases have recovered.

Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases dropped slightly to 907 cases per day. The 14-day average of daily new cases rose to 838, a new record high.

The state also reported 10 new deaths Sunday attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 1,355.
