Mysterious, Chinese seeds arriving in some U.S. mailboxes, authorities investigating
Mysterious packets of Chinese seeds are being received by U.S. residents who didn’t order them causing state and federal officials to investigate.
The packages, originating from China, have been received by residents in Louisiana, Virginia, Utah, Washington and in the United Kingdom.
In some cases the outside of the packages indicated they contained jewelry.
In Louisiana, a resident in St. Rose received the seeds, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) reported.
“Right now, we are uncertain what types of seeds are in the package. Out of caution, we are urging anyone who receives a package that was not ordered by the recipient, to please call the LDAF immediately,” said Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain, D.V.M. “We need to identify the seeds to ensure they do not pose a risk to Louisiana’s agricultural industry or the environment.”
If you receive a package with seeds, you are asked to contact your nearest state or federal agricultural authorities.
