Mississippi coronavirus cases continue to climb, new record set

Mississippi reported higher than average COVID-19 coronavirus cases Tuesday as the virus spread continued across the state, setting a new 14-day average daily case record.
The state reported 1,342 new coronavirus cases and 42 more deaths from the virus, bringing the total cases to 54,299 and 1,543 deaths.
The state said two of the deaths reported Tuesday actually occurred between June 3 and July 27, but were delayed in reporting.
The state believes approximately 35,000 people have recovered from the virus.
The state reported the number of patients with confirmed COVID-19 rose slightly Tuesday with 969 confirmed COVID cases and another 215 suspected patients.
The state reported 169 patients were on ventilators, a new record high.
Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
