Mississippi man beaten to death, investigators search for clues, attempt to quell rumors
Mississipi police are seeking suspects in a beating that led to a man’s death.
The victim, Michael Gaines, was assaulted Friday night in Panola County, investigators said. Gaines died Monday night.
Details of exactly what occurred in the incident have not been revealed.
Investigators say they’re still investigating the assault, but said lots of rumors flying in the community are false.
“The sheriff’s department has gotten multiple calls about a group of people that are attacking motorists and that is simply not the case,” District Attorney John Champion said.
Champion said investigators believe no weapon was used in the attack.
