A Mississippi woman who dropped her phone while live videoing herself driving on an interstate was killed Tuesday night while she tried to retrieve her phone from the roadway.

Jackson police report that Ashlee Sims, 26, was killed Tuesday night when she was struck by a car on Interstate 55 near Briarwood Drive in Jackson.

The phone continued videoing after Sims dropped the phone and recorded the sounds of her death.

Although the video’s image went dark after the phone was apparently dropped, the audio recorded the sounds of motorists continuing to zoom past as the woman’s phone rang with an alarm for several minutes.

In a chilling segment of the audio, a woman’s voice, presumably the victim’s, could be heard talking as she searched for the phone, then a loud crash, a car horn and screaming.

Jackson police said they were investigating the incident, which occurred at approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday.
