More coronavirus cases hospitalized in state than ever before

The number of hospitalized COVID-19 coronavirus patients hit a new record Wednesday as the 14-day, daily new case average set new records as well.

The state reported 1,505 new coronavirus cases and 20 more deaths from the virus.

The state said four of the deaths reported Wednesday actually occurred between May 10 and July 12, but were delayed in reporting.

Mississippi State Department of Health officials reported that 982 confirmed COVID-19 patients were hospitalized with another 229 suspected COVID patients in hospitals across the state.

The state reported 296 patients were in ICU beds with 178 requiring a ventilator, also a new record.

In total, 55,804 cases have been found in the state. The state believes more than 35,000 of those cases have recovered.

A total of 1,563 people have died as a result of coronavirus.

The 7-day, daily average of new cases dropped slightly to 1,247, while the 14-day, daily average rose again to a new record, 1,231 cases per day.

Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
