A Mississippi high school that reopened earlier this week announced Friday that a student in the district had tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Officials with Corinth High School announced Friday that a student had tested positive for the virus and that the district had already informed all others who had come in close contact with the student.

The school district has garnered national attention as it’s one of the first school districts in the county to reopen with in-person classes since most of the nation’s schools were shut down in the spring.

The district announced the news on social media and through a letter to parents.

“The Corinth School District has had a great first week with students back. Thank you to our teachers, staff, parents, and students for making this happen.

“We have had an individual test positive at Corinth High School. Contact tracing at the school has been completed and anyone in close contact (someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for 15 minutes or more) with this person has been notified.”
