A Mississippi man drowned Friday in a Georgia river after he decided to take a swim after going for a run in a park.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputies say they responded to the scene Friday morning and it appears Andre J. Armstrong, 26, from Jackson, Mississippi, was fatigued after running with a group of others in the Amerson River Park in Macon.

The group of five decided to cool off by swimming in the Ocmulgee River just after 10 a.m.

Investigators say the river there is deceptively deep and has a strong current.

Apparently, Armstrong became overcome by the current. The others with him tried to help him but were unable to reach him. His body was recovered approximately an hour later.
