New daily coronavirus cases rise in Mississippi; last 14 days deadliest yet in pandemic

After two days of lower-than-average new COVID-19 coronavirus cases in the state, Mississippi reported more than 1,000 new cases on Tuesday and dozens of additional deaths.
Reported deaths are at an all-time high over the last two weeks with 365 deaths reported.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,074 new coronavirus cases Tuesday and 42 more deaths from the prior day.
In total, 62,199 cases have been found in the state. The state believes more than 42,000 of those cases have recovered.
The state also reported a record high number of COVID-19 patients in ICUs at state hospitals with 314 patients in those critical care beds.
A total of 1,753 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases dropped to 1,129 with Tuesday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average also dropped to a new record, 1,191 cases per day.
Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
