Lower-than-average numbers of new COVID-19 coronavirus cases reported Friday in Mississippi seemed to indicate the state’s soaring numbers from July were beginning to ease at least some.
Reported deaths remained near two-week average highs on Friday with 385 Mississippians dying from the virus over the last two weeks.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,036 new coronavirus cases Friday and 23 more deaths from the prior day.
In total, 65,436 cases have been found in the state. The state believes more than 42,000 of those cases have recovered.
A total of 1,848 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases dropped to 956 with Friday’s update. It was the lowest level of that average since mid-July.
