Mississippi’s new daily COVID-19 coronavirus cases ticked back up above trailing averages Saturday in Mississippi.
After Thursday’s sub-1,000 new case count, Friday and Saturday’s numbers climbed back above 1,000.
The huge spike in cases from July when more than 31,000 cases were reported subsequently has driven up the recent death toll.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,210 new coronavirus cases Saturday and 26 more deaths from the prior day.
In total, 66,646 cases have been found in the state. The state believes more than 42,000 of those cases have recovered.
A total of 1,874 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases increased slightly to 966 with Saturday’s update.
