Curve flattening? Mississippi reports lowest number of new coronavirus cases in weeks
Published 1:44 pm Sunday, August 9, 2020
Mississippi reported its lowest number of new daily COVID-19 coronavirus cases since mid-July on Sunday as the number of new cases and the trailing averages continued to decline.
Reported deaths over the last two-weeks hit a new high on Sunday with 401 Mississippi deaths reported from the virus over the last 14-days. That statistic, however, gets clouded some by deaths that are sometimes reported weeks after the actual date of death.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 527 new coronavirus cases Sunday and 22 more deaths from the prior day. Of the deaths reported Sunday, 14 occurred in July, the state said but were delayed in reporting.
In total, 67,173 cases have been found in the state. The state believes more than 42,000 of those cases have recovered.
A total of 1,896 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases dropped to 946 with Sunday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average dropped to 1,062 cases per day.
Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
