Mississippi just reported lowest number of new coronavirus cases in more than month

Mississippi reported its lowest number of new daily COVID-19 coronavirus cases in more than a month on Monday as the number of new cases and the trailing averages continued to decline.

Reported deaths over the last two-weeks hit a new high on Monday with 411 Mississippi deaths reported from the virus over the last 14-days. That statistic, however, gets clouded by deaths that are sometimes reported weeks after the actual date of death.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 476 new coronavirus cases Monday and 16 more deaths from the prior day. Of the deaths reported Monday, 9 occurred between July 13 and August 2, the state said but were delayed in reporting.

A total of 1,912 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus.

The 7-day, daily average of new cases dropped to 932 with Monday’s update.

The 14-day, daily average dropped to 1,049 cases per day.
