Mississippi’s masking seems to be working, coronavirus numbers declining

Published 1:55 pm Tuesday, August 11, 2020

Mississippi’s number of new COVID-19 coronavirus cases reported Tuesday continued to be lower than the trailing averages, indicating that measures to slow the virus’ spread may be working.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 644 new coronavirus cases Tuesday and 33 more deaths from the prior day.

Tuesday’s declining numbers comes exactly one week after Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves implemented a statewide face mask order and just more than a month after the governor began rolling out mask mandates for specific counties deemed as “hot spots” for the virus.
