Bump in new coronavirus cases ends Mississippi’s 10-day streak of declining average

Mississippi broke its streak of declining 7-day daily new COVID-19 coronavirus cases Tuesday as the state released its latest statistics.
The state had seen the 7-day daily average decline for 10 days straight until Tuesday when the Mississippi Department of Health reported 795 new coronavirus cases reported in the last 24 hours.
The state also reported 34 more deaths Tuesday from the prior day. Seven deaths reported on Tuesday actually occurred between July 21 and August 9, the state health officials said.
In total, 73,207 cases have been found in the state since March. The state believes more than 56,000 of those cases have recovered.
A total of 2,128 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases rose slightly to 702 with Tuesday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average dropped to 786 cases per day.
