Two Mississippi county jailers have been charged with having sex with an inmate in their custody.

Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance confirmed the case in a social media post.

The sheriff said he was told that one or more jailers were having inappropriate contact with a female prisoner last Friday.

After an internal investigation, the sheriff said he contacted the nearby Senatobia Police Department to investigate the incident.

Jailers Stephen Crabb and Charles Lebo were arrested by Senatobia officers, each charged with a felony count of having sex with a prisoner.

The sheriff said Lebo and Crabb have been fired from the department.

“The internal investigation and separate criminal investigation are both ongoing,” Lance said. “We will investigate any complaints brought to our attention and if potential criminal conduct is discovered I will not hesitate to call in an outside law enforcement agency.

“The trust placed in us by the people of Tate County is never taken for granted,” he said.
