Mississippi’s 7-day and 14-day averages of new, daily COVID-19 coronavirus cases crept higher Sunday with the latest statistics.
On Sunday, the state reported 647 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours. The state also reported 14 more deaths Sunday from the prior day.
Through Sunday’s statistics, 781 deaths have been reported in August from COVID-19, making August the deadliest month on record for Mississippi.
With one additional reporting day left, August has already had more deaths reported than in March, April and May combined.
The monthly death tolls, however, are not exact due to delays in reporting that can cause deaths to be reported weeks after the person died.
In total, 82,676 cases have been found in the state since March. The state believes more than 62,000 of those cases have recovered.
A total of 2,441 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases rose slightly to 683 with Sunday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average rose to 753 cases per day.
