New coronavirus cases in Mississippi relatively stable, but reported deaths rise sharply

Mississippi’s latest COVID-19 coronavirus new case numbers released Tuesday showed the virus’ spread remains relatively stable, but the state reported three-dozen more deaths, underscoring the deadly nature of the virus.

On Tuesday, the state reported 465 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

The state also reported 36 deaths Tuesday. Of the deaths reported Tuesday, nine occurred between August 29 and September 5.

In total, 94,021 cases have been found in the state since March. The state believes approximately 85,000 of those cases have recovered.

A total of 2,846 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.

The 7-day, daily average of new cases dipped slightly to 500 with Tuesday’s update.

The 14-day, daily average rose to 475 cases per day.

Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
