Weekly coronavirus new case average inches higher; 20 additional Mississippians just died from the virus

Mississippi’s 7-day trailing average of new, daily COVID-19 coronavirus cases inched higher Friday with the latest statistics released from the Mississippi State Department of Health.

The state reported 722 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

The state also reported 20 additional deaths Friday. Seven of the deaths reported Friday occurred on between September 11 and September 24.

In total, 96,032 cases have been found in the state since March. The state believes approximately 85,000 of those cases have recovered.

A total of 2,894 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.

The 7-day, daily average of new cases rose to 514 with Friday’s update.

The 14-day, daily average dropped to 490 cases per day.

Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.

The numbers in this table are provisional. County case numbers and deaths may change as investigation finds new or additional information. The data provided below is the most current available.
