Mississippi reports higher-than-average coronavirus cases, three dozen more deaths

Mississippi reported a slightly higher-than-average number of new COVID-19 coronavirus cases Tuesday along with 36 additional deaths.
The Mississippi State Health Department reported 589 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.
The state also reported 36 additional deaths Tuesday. Fifteen of the deaths reported Tuesday occurred between July 31 and September 25.
In total, 97,638 cases have been found in the state since March. The state believes approximately 89,700 of those cases have recovered.
A total of 2,957 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases rose to 517 with Tuesday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average rose to 508 cases per day.
Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
