Mississippi coronavirus statistics zero in on historic milestones for cases, deaths

Mississippi’s total coronavirus cases and deaths closed in on a dubious milestone Thursday with just under 100,000 confirmed cases and nearly 3,000 deaths attributed to the virus since the pandemic began in March.
The Mississippi State Health Department reported 672 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.
The state also reported 20 additional deaths Friday, four of those deaths occurred between August 26 and September 25.
In total, 99,558 cases have been found in the state since March. The state believes approximately 89,700 of those cases have recovered.
A total of 2,999 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases dropped slightly to 504 with Friday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average rose to 509 cases per day.
