Mississippi tops historic milestones in coronavirus virus fight; 100,000 cases, 3,000 deaths

Mississippi’s COVID-19 coronavirus battle set new milestones Saturday as the total number of confirmed cases topped 100,000 and more than 3,000 deaths have been attributed to the virus since the pandemic began in March.

The Mississippi State Health Department reported 609 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

The state also reported 16 additional deaths Saturday, seven of those deaths occurred between July 11 and September 26.

In total, 100,167 cases have been found in the state since March. The state believes approximately 89,700 of those cases have recovered.

A total of 3,011 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.

The 7-day, daily average of new cases dropped slightly to 499 with Saturday’s update.

The 14-day, daily average dropped slightly to 506 cases per day.

Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.

The numbers in this table are provisional. County case numbers and deaths may change as investigation finds new or additional information. The data provided below is the most current available.
