Mississippi coronavirus cases hit highest pace since late August

Mississippi reported nearly 1,000 new COVID-19 coronavirus cases on Saturday, pushing the 7-day trailing average to the highest level the state has seen since early September.

On Saturday, the state reported 957 new cases, bringing the total cases since the pandemic began in March to 104,638. Of those cases, the state believes approximately 90,500 have recovered.

In the last seven days, the state has reported approximately 4,471 new cases of the virus. The last time more cases were reported in any 7-day period was in the last week in August.

The state reported 16 new deaths Saturday, 10 of which occurred between September 23 and October 9.

A total of 3,096 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.

The 7-day, daily average of new cases jumped to 639 with Saturday’s update. It was the highest level reached since early September.

The 14-day, daily average rose to 569 cases per day.

Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
