Coronavirus still spreading across Mississippi as more than 8,000 new cases found in last two weeks
Mississippi’s 14-day daily average for new COVID-19 coronavirus cases continued to rise Tuesday to levels the state last experienced more than a month ago as more than 8,300 new cases were detected in the last two weeks.
On Tuesday, the state reported 713 new cases, bringing the total cases since the pandemic began in March to 105,941. Of those cases, the state believes approximately 94,000 have recovered.
The state reported 14 new deaths Tuesday. One of those deaths actually occurred on September 25.
A total of 3,115 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases dipped to 609 with Tuesday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average rose to 593 cases per day. The last time it was higher was on Sept. 7.
