Mississippi continued to hover at a nearly two-month high rate Monday for the pace of new COVID-19 coronavirus cases as the state released its latest statistics.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 675 new cases on Monday, bringing the total cases since the pandemic began in March to 115,763.

The state did not report case numbers on Sunday, so Monday’s release contained two days worth of cases.

Of the 675 cases reported Monday, 228 were reported Saturday and 447 on Sunday.

Approximately 10,500 new cases were discovered across the state in the last 14 days. The last time the state saw that pace of new cases was at the end of August.

Gov. Tate Reeves added seven more counties to his order requiring face masks including: Harrison, Madison, Marshall, Jones, Carroll, Leake and Benton counties.

Reeves lifted a statewide face mask mandate on October 1, but last week added nine counties to a new face mask requirement. Those were:

  • DeSoto
  • Forrest
  • Itawamba
  • Jackson
  • Lamar
  • Lee
  • Neshoba
