A car sale through social media apparently turned deadly for a Mississippi man Monday night.

Houston police are searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Tallahatchie County man who traveled to Houston to buy a car with his step-daughter.

When the man and his step-daughter arrived in Houston, the so-called seller of the car shot the man, Houston Police Chief Billy Voyles said. Voyles said the victim, who was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, had connected with the suspect on social media and had spoken with the suspect for nearly a week.

Voyles said other suspects hit the victim in the head with a bat after the shooting. Voyles said the victim died shortly after police arrived. The step-daughter remained in the car during the shooting.

Police continue to look for a shooter. Voyles said more arrests are expected.
