Mississippi saw nearly 11,000 new coronavirus cases in last two weeks, most in two months

Mississippi’s average daily number of new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus grew again Wednesday to a two-month high.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,000 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the total cases since the pandemic began in March to 117,617.
Approximately 10,800 new cases were discovered across the state in the last 14 days. The last time the state saw that high of a pace of new cases was on August 25.
Of the total cases, the state believes approximately 101,385 have recovered.
After lifting a statewide face mask mandate October 1, Gov. Tate Reeves since has mandated virus mitigation measures in 16 counties across the state, including the requirement to wear face masks when in public.
The state reported 19 new deaths Wednesday. A total of 3,302 people have died from the virus, the state reported.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases increased to 785 with Wednesday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average dipped to 771 cases per day. It was the highest 14-day average since August 25.
