The Latest: New coronavirus cases reported across Mississippi

Mississippi reported another day with a higher-than-average number of new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus on Thursday.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 970 new cases on Thursday, bringing the total cases since the pandemic began in March to 118,587.
More than 10,400 new cases were discovered across the state in the last 14 days.
Of the total cases, the state believes approximately 101,385 have recovered.
After lifting a statewide face mask mandate October 1, Gov. Tate Reeves since has mandated virus mitigation measures in 16 counties across the state, including the requirement to wear face masks when in public.
The state reported eight new deaths Thursday. A total of 3,310 people have died from the virus, the state reported.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases increased to 787 with Thursday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average dipped to 746 cases per day.
