One person is dead, and another is injured after being ejected in a crash Sunday evening.

Mississippi Capitol Police in Jackson spotted a Hyundai SUV with no lights on traveling at an excessive speed on Fortification Street Sunday.

The officers attempted to follow the vehicle, according to a news release from the Department of Public Safety, but lost sight of the vehicle because of how fast the car was going.

Soon after, officers noticing a cloud of dust at Fortification Street and Palmyra Street arrived at the scene where they found the wreckage of the SUV.

Two people had been ejected from the SUV as a result of the crash.

One person died at the scene, and the other was transported to a hospital to be treated for their injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the Capitol Police and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
