Mississippi agents are investigating reports of shots being fired at or near a US senator’s Mississippi residence.

The Brookhaven Daily Leader reports that officials with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith are expected to release a statement Monday after meeting about the incident that reportedly happened Sunday.

The shots were reportedly fired as Hyde-Smith’s family returned from church to their home in Lincoln County on Sunday.

A statement is expected to be released later Monday morning.
