It wasn’t money laundering that led to the arrest of two men suspected of cleaning out a Mississippi dollar store of a large amount of laundry detergent.
On Monday shortly after noon, Picayune Police issued an alert for a 2013 Ford Escape white in color with a Mississippi tag of PRH6436 occupied by two black males that had just shoplifted a large amount of laundry detergent from a Dollar Store in the Carriere area.
At approximately 1:30 pm Picayune Police Officers observed the car matching the description traveling west on Rosa Street. Officers then conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle and identified the male driver as Jermaine Daggans and the passenger was identified as Charles R. Smith.
A large amount of laundry detergent could be seen in the back seat of the car.
Picayune Police Officers then contacted the Sheriff’s Department and advised them they had the suspects pulled over and detained awaiting their arrival. A Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Investigator arrived on the scene and positively identified the suspects from the video at the store.
Daggans was also identified in a shoplifting that occurred in the city of Picayune a couple of weeks prior for stealing a full grocery cart of laundry detergent. Both subjects were arrested for shoplifting and possession of stolen property.
