Mississippi murder suspects arrested in Virginia, Pennsylvania nearly one year after businessman, father of two found dead

Two Mississippi murder suspects have been arrested in Virginia and another suspect has been arrested in Pennsylvania in connection with the 2022 death of a Tippah County man.

WTVA in Tupelo reports that authorities in Virginia have arrested two people in connection with the murder of Kirby Carpenter, a father of two and Tupelo businessman, who was found dead on Dec. 2, 2022, at a home on County Road 600 in the Dry Creek community in Tippah County.

Smyth County, Virginia, deputies along with the US Marshals Service have arrested Jeffrey Spence and Karen Spence on Thursday, Nov. 30 in the nearly-year-old murder case.

The US Marshals Service was requested to find both suspects and worked with law enforcement across the country’s East Coast. Those efforts eventually led to the arrest of Jeffrey and Karen Spence in the Sugar Grove area of Smyth County.

As of Thursday, both suspects were being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon as they await extradition to Mississippi.

WTVA also reports that U.S. Marshals captured a third suspect in Pennsylvania.
