Mississippi driver dies on Alabama interstate after crashing into unoccupied car on side of road

A Mississippi man died on the Alabama interstate when the car he was driving struck an unoccupied vehicle on the side of the road.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1.

Robert E. Johnson Jr., 73, of Price, Mississippi, was fatally injured when the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban he was driving left the roadway and struck an unoccupied Ford pickup sitting on the shoulder.

Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on Interstate 65 near the 216 mile marker, approximately three miles south of Jemison, in Chilton County.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
