Mississippi man arrested for stealing millions from Gulf Coast nonprofit

A Mississippi man has been arrested for stealing millions from the American Shrimp Processing Association.

Charles David Veal, 79, of Gulfport was arrested by the Biloxi Police Department on Thursday.

Veal is suspected of stealing more than $3 million from the non-profit association that represents and promotes the domestic, U.S. wild-caught, warm-water shrimp processing industry along the Gulf Coast. The organization has members in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.

Police started investigating Veal after the American Shrimp Processing Association reported that he had transferred funds from their nonprofit bank account to his own personal account.

Vela is charged with Felony Embezzlement.

Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain issued the arrest warrant for Veal.
