Mississippi city councilman arrested after drugs reportedly found in his house

A Mississippi city councilman was arrested Monday after marijuana and methamphetamine were found in his house.

WCBI News in Columbus reports that Pierre Beard, a member of the Columbus City Council, was arrested when Lowndes County deputies went to Beard’s house to serve a warrant to one of Beard’s friends, Quavis Betts.

Betts was indicted on an armed robbery charge in connection with a June incident at a local Waffle House.

When deputies arrived at the house they reportedly saw marijuana and methamphetamine in plain sight. Beard was arrested on two misdemeanor drug charges and charged with possession of a controlled substance because the drugs were in his home.

Beard was recently arrested on drug charges during an Alabama traffic stop.
