Mississippi’s second-longest-serving judge dies in car accident

One of Mississippi’s longest-serving judges has died in a car accident on Monday.

The Hon. Johnny Wayne McLarty, a judge for the Lafayette County Justice Court, died from injuries suffered in a one-car accident on University Avenue.

Judge McLarty was the second longest serving judge in the state of Mississippi with over 44 years of service, and just won re-election in November. He joined the bench in 1979.

He was a member of the MS Judges Association since 1979.

He was a graduate of Oxford High School. He leaves two children, Chad McLarty and Deanna McLarty Massey.
