A Mississippi sheriff’s office has asked the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to assist the department in finding the cause of death of a female inmate.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center personnel found 53-year-old Marie Parkman, a white female from Jackson, unresponsive in her cell Tuesday.

LCSO Detention Center medical personnel immediately administered life-saving measures until Priority (Baptist) Ambulance Service Paramedics arrived and assumed patient care. The inmate was pronounced deceased.

LCSO Deputies secured the area until investigators with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation could arrive and assume the investigation. Currently, foul play is not suspected.
