A Mississippi man found himself in jail Sunday after allegedly claiming his daughter was inside a car stolen from a discount store.

According to WLBT, Jackson police arrested the man for lying about a kidnapping when officers responded to a Family Dollar store. They had received a call about a car being stolen with a child in the back seat.

Stedman Tolliver was questioned by police and admitted to making up the kidnapping part of his story, WLBT reported. JPD told WLBT the report of a stolen car was being investigated and police were attempting to find the car.

Tolliver was booked into a Jackson facility and charged with filing a false police report.
