A Mississippi man was killed in a crash early Sunday morning as he was exiting the interstate.

Eric Phillips, 34, of Vicksburg, was killed in the one-vehicle wreck that occurred after midnight Sunday.

According to Vicksburg police, Phillips was driving on the Halls Ferry Road exit when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

Police say Phillips was trying to gain control of the vehicle when the vehicle he was driving hit a tree.

Phillips was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Vicksburg Police Department .
