A Mississippi baby has died after being brutally beaten to death, according to police.

WLBT News in Jackson reports that police found the baby unresponsive and taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where the child later died.

Officials say the 1-year-old child had severe injuries from what appeared to be blunt force trauma.

Police Chief Joseph Wade said the baby had a “massive amount of trauma and bruising to their body.”

Police are questioning the child’s mother and a neighbor in the case,

They are also searching for a man who had some relationship to the mother.

Other children in the home have been given to Child Protective Services.
