The remains were almost two years old when they were discovered. According to officials, a hospital wristband was discovered among a pile of belongings beside the remains. A name on the wristband helped lead officials to family members in Michigan, one of whom provided a DNA sample that was a match.

In 2021, Howard, who was 64 years old, had been checked into Baptist Hospital in Jackson.

How Howard’s remains ended up in a field in Pearl and how Howard died was not disclosed in the WLBT report.

Arrangements are being made to reunite Howard’s remains with her family.
