Human remains discovered in a Mississippi field seven months ago have been identified and traced back to a family in Michigan.
WLBT in Jackson reports that the state medical examiner’s office recently released results about the skeletal remains that were discovered in Pearl by an Entergy worker near the intersection of North Pearson Road.
Officials with the Rankin County Coroner’s Office report that the remains have been identified as those of Sylvia Anne Howard.
The remains were almost two years old when they were discovered. According to officials, a hospital wristband was discovered among a pile of belongings beside the remains. A name on the wristband helped lead officials to family members in Michigan, one of whom provided a DNA sample that was a match.
In 2021, Howard, who was 64 years old, had been checked into Baptist Hospital in Jackson.
How Howard’s remains ended up in a field in Pearl and how Howard died was not disclosed in the WLBT report.
Arrangements are being made to reunite Howard’s remains with her family.
