A wreck that killed a 48-year-old Mississippi man early Saturday morning is under investigation.

Royce Craig Lanehart, 48, died after being transported to the hospital.

According to police, the wreck happened at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday on Brookfield Drive outside Natchez. The cause of the accident is unknown.

“(The driver) came across Brookfield Drive and hit an embankment on Morgantown Road across the street,” Natchez Police Commander Jerry Ford said. “Our investigators did not smell any intoxicating beverage or anything.”

There were no other vehicles or passengers involved, Ford said.
