Authorities are investigating following the discovery of a dead body on a rural Mississippi county road.

WTVA in Tupelo reports that the body was found Thursday morning on County Road 238 south of Shannon in Chickasaw County.

Officials with the Chickasaw County Coroner’s Office described the victim as a 31-year-old female, but did not release the name of the individual Thursday.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
