Man dies in car fire after wrecking car on downtown city street

A man died after the car he crashed burst into flames shortly after midnight Friday.

WAPT in Jackson reports that the vehicle the man was driving caught on fire after a single-vehicle wreck that happened at the corner of Pearl and Roach Streets. The wreck occurred near the Standard Life Building in downtown Jackson.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 12:09 a.m. Friday.

Officials from the Jackson Fire Department confirmed that the man inside the vehicle died in the fire. The crash and fire are believed to have been an accident.

Officials said the car was too damaged to determine the make and model.

The victim has not been identified.
