Mississippi blood shortage leaves supplies in ‘desperate need’ of donors

Mississippi is experiencing a critical blood supply shortage.

As of Wednesday, Jan. 3, “There is less than one day’s supply left on our shelves,” according to Kasey Dickson of Mississippi Blood Services.

“The holidays combined with the recent cold weather throughout the South has had a critical impact on the current blood supply for the state,” Dickson said.

A “desperate need” exists for the following blood types: O Negative; O Positive; B Negative; B Positive; and A Negative.

Platelets are needed from A Positive or AB Positive donors, as well.
