Mississippi woman traveling wrong way on interstate killed in head-on collision

A 61-year-old Mississippi woman traveling the wrong way on the interstate was killed in a head-on collision Friday.

At approximately 1 a.m. Friday, the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 55 in Lincoln County.

A 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by 61-year-old Ivy Adams of Brookhaven, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the interstate, according to Troop M Cpl. Craig James.

The vehicle collided with a 2021 GMC Sierra, driven by 36-year-old James King of McCall Creek, which was traveling south.

Adams suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

King received injuries and was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

This crash remains under investigation by MHP.
