Power provider asking Mississippi consumers to help protect grid

A large regional power provider has asked community electric associations to lower power consumption.

According to the Tennessee Valley Authority, better known as the TVA, the organization has experienced extremely high usage from customers. With that in mind, the agency’s leadership has asked customers for a voluntary reduction in usage.

To help protect the grid, TVA offers the following tips:

  • Set your thermostat as low as comfortable. We suggest 68 degrees.
  • Use small, countertop appliances to cook.
  • Limit large appliances like dishwashers, washers, dryers, and ovens.
  • Avoid space heaters and auxiliary heat if at all possible.

Some other rural power associations in Mississippi not affiliated with TVA have cautioned over usage of power in other communities, too.
